When The Beatles first appeared on the scene, they were very clean cut with long hair (according to the standards of the day). Boys began letting their hair grow longer. Then The Beatles let their hair grow longer and longer along with facial hair. That became a huge trend. That is what hippies are remembered to look like. When John Lennon was seen wearing wire frame glasses with tinted lenses, everyone of our generation who wore glasses got the same kind.

I think it should be the other way around because The Beatles changed America and if not, the world. If they never met each other, we would have no sense of rock and roll like we do today. They changed to way we see music.
