During the Victorian era, cooking was done mostly on wood-fired stoves, with perhaps some gas-fired stoves coming in late in the period. I don't know if the technology for electric ranges was available at that time, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have microwave ovens, either. Wood and Coal were it, probably.

Many Victorians cooked using a dutch oven, and during the middle of the era the ranges and ovens improved. Among richer people, the earliest of gas ovens were becoming popular by the end of the era.
