Trench warfare involving Machine Guns, Tanks and Chemical agents as well as Planes were the new weapons of World War One. The main problem was that neither side had much time to develop much of a strategy for their use and most of the war was a stalemate with thousands being slaughtered on either side

The weapons caused more deaths and casualties and they prolonged the war Answer Tactics that had worked very well in previous wars (fast-moving "foot-cavalry," and bayonet charges a la the Franco-Prussian War) suddenly became very costly when you were faced with machine guns. As for moving quickly in mobile war, artillery and barbed wire saw to it that WW1 became a static war of attrition in the trenches.

∙ 11y agoNew weapons made war a living hell. If you were seen by anyone by the enemies you were shot down in a instant. These weapons killed faster and for longer.
