They are kind of different, due to the fact that they are in different places in the world. They both serve and fight. The knights' follow chivalry, whereas samurai follows bushido. Bushido is a code of honor with 7 virtues:
1. Respect
2. Honest
3. Honor
4. Benevolence
5. Rectitude
6. Loyalty
7. Courage
Samurai means to serve. Knights and samurai both serve, but samurai has a ritual suicide of honor called sepukku.
A samurai with honor will commit sepukku when they either did something dishonorable or they lost in a war. In sepukku, you first slice open your stomach, then, at most painful moment before you die, you cut off your head.
That the samurai and the knight were of different religions was one of the biggest differences. The Samurai was Shinto while the medieval knights were Christian (or Catholic)
Shinto meant "Way of the Gods" and they belived in carrying out deeds that made sort of a connection between modern day Japan and its ancient times.
The knights were Christian(or Catholic) because at one point because of the crusades and other obsessed rulers, they came to think that God was on their side. They believed that if God was on their side they would be able to do anything.
they're about the same but the samurai could do what ever the heck he wanted

Knights in medieval Europe often practiced Christianity, while samurai in feudal Japan adhered to Buddhism and Shintoism. Some samurai also followed Zen Buddhism for its focus on discipline and self-control. Both groups viewed their religious beliefs as integral to their code of honor and moral behavior in battle.
The Samurai of the East have gone the way of the Knights of the West.
Three characteristics shared by knights and samurai were loyalty to their lords, adherence to a code of ethics (chivalry for knights, bushido for samurai), and the use of a variety of weapons and fighting techniques in battle.
