Improved transportation eased the time it took to send both people and needed supplies (food, clothing, building materials) out west and to bring back western products (gold, beef cattle, furs).
Western expansion was sparse until transportation improved. Families found travel in the wagon train difficult and deadly. When the railroad was installed, western expansion exploded.
When transportation became better, it was easier and faster to transport goods
The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 significantly enhanced the economic prospects of western farmers by providing a direct and efficient transportation route to markets in the East. This reduced shipping costs and transit times, allowing farmers to sell their surplus crops more easily and at better prices. As a result, it encouraged agricultural expansion and settlement in the Midwest, ultimately contributing to the growth of the American economy and the westward expansion.
The northeast became better connected to the western section of the country
The expansion of the US railway system made private passenger transportation to the western territories allot cheaper, faster and easier for people who wished to settle in the western territories. The completion of the transcontinental railway system which was completed in 1869 allowed settlers to use the railways to reach destinations that previously were made by slow and often dangerous wagon trains. It also allowed for food and other supplies to be delivered to the west faster and it was less costly. Another factor was that settlers in the west could be better protected by the US Army who could use trains to move troops more rapidly.
It doesn't affect your gaming experience. Go ahead and add-on the expansion pack. It's very fun.
railroads were better transportation than canals
Boats, trains, and carts revolutionized transportation.
Abolitionists and Free Soil Party members fought against the expansion of slavery into western territories. They believed that slavery was morally wrong and that free labor was more beneficial for the economy. They argued that allowing the spread of slavery would inhibit the growth and development of the western territories.
The modern transportation is way faster and more convenient.
