By a process of human breeding. However most people would say that dogs are a separate sub species, not a separate species because dogs and wolves can still interbreed.
Dogs are "domestic" wolves - and like wolves they will hunt and scavenge to get their food if not fed by man.
No, the wolf is a breed of it's own and in the canine family.
Dogs (and wolves) were domesticated in or before Neolithic times, so no one society can be considered the first to have "owned" dogs.
Neither. They are all their own animals. However both the wolf and the dog (and fox and coyote) are members of the canine family while the cat (and lions and tigers) is a member of the feline family.
Not usually. In fact history notes several tales of wolves suckling human babies as their own. Given that wolves are canine, and all dogs stem from wolves, it would not be possible to breed dogs if wolves held a genetic danger to humans. Contrary to legends and folk syories I don't believe their is one factual recording of wolves killing humans. Another piece of useless information for you, Polar Bears are the only animals that just consider humans as meat.
Dogs do not make up their own kingdom. They are members of the kingdom Animalia, just as cats, weasels, crocodiles, snakes, most bats, etc are. Dogs are canids. Other canids include wolves, coyotes, foxes, dingoes, jackals, African hunting dogs, dholes, maned wolves and others.
I can tell you for a fact that hyenas aren't dogs. They're more closely related to cats actually, but they're a separate animal family of their own. Wild dogs, if you mean the African wild dog, belong to the family canidae as do dogs and wolves, but they are a separate genus, Lycaon. Modern thinking classes domestic dogs and grey wolves as the same species, canis lupus. You will see some older sources distinguish them as canis domesticus and canis lupus, but genetic studies have shown this is not valid.
First of all, a wolf is not a dog; neither is it a breed of dog. It is a completely separate species, although it is related to modern dogs. Second, wolves are wild animals, and even those raised in captivity could never be trusted to be handled as dogs are in a show ring, or to perform as show dogs do; wolves act on their own and do not look to people for direction. Third, and perhaps most importly, a wolf in a show ring would probably view the competing dogs as prey.
You cannot legally own a wolf unless you have a license.
evolution - apes continued to evolve as well. We came from all mamals, reptiles etc... each species continued to evolve into its own lines. All dogs came from the selective breeding from wolves, and wolves continue to exist.
Yes they do. They communicate in their own way.
yes, very. border collies are herding dogs that are highly intelligent and happen to be the smartest dog. and as you know, wolves are the ancestor or all domestic and wild dogs, so they are very smart, having the brain cells of each kind.
