yes, very. border collies are herding dogs that are highly intelligent and happen to be the smartest dog. and as you know, wolves are the ancestor or all domestic and wild dogs, so they are very smart, having the brain cells of each kind.
Generally yes. According to the book The Intelligence of Dogs by Stanley Coren, Border Collies are the most intelligent breed of dog while the Labrador Retriever is seventh. However, there may be individual Labradors that are more intelligent than individual Border Collies.
I'd say that they're close but Border Collies are more active.
I've had 2 border collie crosses. Both have been very clever as pups. My present collie cross was stopping at roads and waiting for the command to cross when she was only 4 months old. They also dont have the fixations that pure breds have.
Border Collies and more that I forgot.
A wolf and a Border collie. The wolf is smarter than the Border collie by the way. The Aussie is a more intelligent animal than the sheltie, as they seem to learn faster, and have superior herding skills. Not to say shelties are not intelligent, but the Aussie learns his job faster. Border collies are reknown for their herding skills, and the Australian shepherd rivals their ability.
"Better"? Better for what? Border Collies generally have more drive, but Aussies are more adaptable, less quirky, and much better family dogs.
Tennis balls. Anything you throw at them they are more than happy to get. Border Collies are the throw-the-ball kind of dogs instead of the in-your-face-cuddly dogs though they can be at times. That is unless you have a ball in your hand.
Having had several of both - border collies are slightly more hyper than labs, though both are pretty doggone active breeds. Both are good escape artists too, if that's a concern for you. If you want a hyper dog, go with the border collie. Bred to herd sheep, they're better suited to expend more energy for a longer amount of time than the lab, who is bred to retrieve. BCs also have an edge in intelligence.
Yes. The border collie is more intelligent but overall the Australian shepherd would tear up the border collie
Depends on your lifestyle and personality. Border collies tend to be very active, intelligent dogs which require lots of excersize and mental stimulation. Great if you want to do obedience or agility with your dog, (or work sheep!) and have lots of time, energy and patience. Rotweilers are more placid easy going dogs, requiring less excersize than Border collies. Possibly a little more difficult to train, but can be very affectionate and loyal. However they can be territorial and sometimes overprotective, and need firm handling and consistant boundaries from the start to make them feel secure.
Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, Great Danes, and Saint Bernards are all working dogs. See the related link below for more information:
If you are talking about the breed in general then sorry, but no. However it is one of them. The collie seems to be called the most intelligent at this time (excluding crossbreeds). If you mean individual dogs then it varies- some German Shepherd are highly intelligent, probably more than many collies etc but studies show different. I'm not sure this is 100% accurate so you may want to check my facts. I hope this helps :)
