Unfortunately battleships were a flop in the Great War (WWI). The only major warships to make a good showing were the battlecruisers at Jutland in 1916.
One dreadnought (battleship) fleet ran away from the battle, and the other couldn't re-locate him to regain the fight (some say he got lost in the fog/weather conditions) what ever excuse people want to give, the battleships at Jutland were an embarrassment to battleship history.
