It is not for certain why Lancelot sings Tirra lirra, however, he may be singing to his lady, Lady Guinevere for in earlier stanzas Tenyson states that "a red-cross knight for ever kneel'd to a lady in his shield". He could also have been singing to pass the time on his way to Camelot.
