Beowulf gets hold of Grendel arms. Grendel cant handle the pain and wants to return back to its den. But Beowulfs immence hands rip of Grendels and Beowulf slauters Beowulf.
In the first battle of Beowulf, Grendel is mortally wounded by Beowulf when he forcefully rips off the monster's arm. Grendel retreats to his swamp lair and dies from his injuries.

grendel cannot be killed with swards or anything else he must be killed with bare hands which beowulf could do but his warriors could not so they got frusturated becuase they were hitting their swards on grendel but he was not dieing but when beowulf took his bare hands to grendel he did die.
