I am awake
He was a very important god after he was dead.
Buddha was not a god, never claimed to be a god, and did not call himself a god. He lived his life like a normal human. He was awake and a human just like you and me, he bled, got sick and he died of food poisoning. A god would not die from food poisoning. Yes, Buddha never claimed himself as a god, but he was a great teacher. When asked if he were a God, Buddha said No. "Then, teacher, what are you?" to which he replied... "Awake!"
No, he was once asked this by his diciples: "Who are you, anyway? Are you a god?" "No," the prince is said to have replied. "Are you a saint?" asked another. "No," the prince replied. "Are you a prophet?" "No, not a prophet." "Well, then," all the pilgrims cried at once, "who are you, then?" And very calmly, the story goes, the Buddha replied: "I am awake."
1. Because an image is not a god. 2. Because the Buddha is not a god, but a teacher.
The belief of Buddha is there no "almighty god". There should not be a God that decides things. Buddha is omniscient but not omnipotent.
He would probably take his cue from the Buddha who saw no advantage in believing in a god. Such questions cannot be answered and detract from your time in perfecting your life.
That Buddha was a god
Buddha is the god of Buddhism.
Hotei/laughing Buddha. He was not a god he was a guru, who is said to be the return of the Buddha!
Buddha never bothered about God. In fact Buddhism is an atheistic religion like Jainism. Later the followers of Buddha made him a God. Only after Mahayana Buddhism came he was made God. In Hinayana Buddhism Buddha was not a God. There is reference, though, in Buddhist text, to the "First Cause." Since God is the Creator of the universe and all that is therein, then God is the First Cause.
== == not reli, although he did say this (buddha is the prince): "Who are you, anyway? Are you a god?" "No," the prince is said to have replied. "Are you a saint?" asked another."No," the prince replied. "Are you a prophet?""No, not a prophet." "Well, then," all the pilgrims cried at once, "who are you, then?" And very calmly, the story goes, the Buddha replied: "I am awake."
I know the difference between the two Buddha's but forgive me, for I do not remember the name of the type of Buddhism that uses each. (I believe one began with an M and the other a T) First off, there was a divide among the people if Buddha was a god or just a teacher. Those who thought he was a god went their own separate way to practice their religion based on Buddha (Siddartha Gautama) as a god. While the other group practiced his teachings as a great teacher and not a god. Therefore, the meditating Buddha represents the Buddhists who believed he was a teacher and Lord Buddha was a god.
