(I believe one began with an M and the other a T) First off, there was a divide among the people if Buddha was a god or just a teacher. Those who thought he was a god went their own separate way to practice their religion based on Buddha (Siddartha Gautama) as a god. While the other group practiced his teachings as a great teacher and not a god. Therefore, the meditating Buddha represents the Buddhists who believed he was a teacher and Lord Buddha was a god.
