The first recorded Viking raid occurred in the year 793 against the great monastery of Lindisfarne off the northeast coast of England.
The raid survivor would have thought that the vikings were pirates that wanted to steal everything from well off lands just because the thought they were poor; but they were not. The would have felt anxious for the raid to get over; if the raid was still occurring, and worried for the future of their country.
Sir Francis Drake led the English raid on Cadiz in 1587. He burned the city and the fleet of of ships that Philip II was preparing for the invasion of England. Historians believe this delayed the planned invasion for a year or more.
