Egyptians didn't like change, they preferred their old ways than adopting new technologies. So they were overrun by new iron weapons.
Egyptians used to believe that to be resurrected after death you need to be buried under Egyptian soil, so they didn't try to colonize other states, they lived on raids and these raids became outdated by the time.
The Egyptian ancient religion and priests are a major reason, the battle of pselum and the Amarna period are good examples.
Egyptian needed changes but they didn't want it.
