It was a crisp night in 1965.

Dave Rayner, 19, waited until sunset to sneak out of the house and hop in his dad's car. He backed out of the driveway slowly to avoid making any noise. Once he was in the clear, he sped off to pick up Becky Wolf, 18. They had been dating for a month.

Dave and Becky had heard from a friend that Lake Ianier was serene, romantic, and most of all, private.

"Are you sure it's not Lanier?" Becky asked.

"He said Ianier," Dave replied.

Dave brought the car to a stop and fished a flashlight out of the glovebox. They made their way to the edge of the lake and Becky dared Dave to go skinny dipping.

"Only if you do," Dave said, blood rushing to his head.

They both disrobed and dived into the lake. The cold water was a shock, and neither Dave nor Becky noticed a certain tingling that wouldn't go away. They were preoccupied, after all.

Some time later they returned to the shore and clumsily dressed themselves. Dave turned on the flashlight and dropped it almost immediately. He tried to shout but found that he could only produce a hoarse grunt. Becky, frightened, picked up the flashlight and pointed it at Dave. She stood, frozen, staring at the beast in front of her and grunting just like it.

It had a grotesque head like a fish, with rows of long, curved teeth and gleaming red eyes. Its body was covered in green scales. Its long, bony fingers were connected by a web, and ended in short, sharp claws.

They say that Lake Ianier changes people. They say that no one ever heard from Dave or Becky again. They say that fishmen are just a myth.
