How did life change under soviet rule for those not in the elite party?

There in no new Soviet Union) Actually, its name is the Community of Indepandant Countries. And, the life is so different. But there are minuses and pluses in both periods. Just give some parameters to compare.

Depends which time period ur talking about, my family lived in the USSR from the beginning to its end and can tell you the good and the bad.

Right after the revolution there was NEP in 1922 i think, and that was dubbed the freest time, as capitalist endeavors were encouraged to boost the economy. Under stalin, life was good for those who did not own a lot of land,were not against collectivization and who werent in the baltic states. Under the Kruschev era and during the destalinazation period, things were better, economy was expanding, post WW2 USSR became a superpower and education could be attained by anyone, thus a good future was secured automatically.

Lenin made their lives better. He ended the slaughter of their sons and brothers in the war by withdrawing Russia fromt the fighting. He divided the land up among them. His New Economic Policy allowed them to own small businesses and sell off their extra crops for extra money.

Stalin ruined all that. He grouped the land together and thus nearly destroyed the family structure. Eventually, he got them into another war. Not to mention he was paranoid and imprisoned anyone he suspected of plots against him.
