After Old Dan died fighting the mountain lion she slowly died of depression and grief and no longer felt the will to live.

little ann from where the red fern grows? well billy went coon hunting and they ran into a moutain lion. old dan fought the lion and they won after alwhile, old dan died. little ann couldn't take this so she died. before that she wouldn't eat anything and right before she died, she went to old dan's grave and died there. IN THE END AS YOU SHOULD KNOW BILLY IS VERY VERY VERY SAD! l was very sad about this story
