Napoleon caused the war of 1812 not directly but indirectly. During the Napoleonic wars, Britain was in a deadly fight with France. This cause her to block all possible aid to France and to maintain the largest navy in that time period. America was trying to trade with France and resented Britain inter fence with her trade, Britain actions were breaking international law, also America became furious because Britain desperate to maintain her navy caused her to impress many American soldiers, many of which were actually old English sailors who ran because of the harsh conditions of the British navy. America declared war because of these two reasons, a irony is the war did not end till after the downfall of Napoleon. Meaning the causes of the war stopped before the war did.

The UK was certainly unable to dedicate all of the Army and Naval resources to fighting in the New World as long as Napoleon was a threat in Europe.
