Typhoid and malaria went along way towards retarding the progress of the Canal, with many workers being infected and sick. Quinine, mosquito nets and better sanitation reduced these problems significantly.

Well William Gorgas momentarily eliminated Yellow Fever in the Panama region... But that had nothing to do with medicine leads... By curing yellow fever the death toll decreased by almost half, allowing workers to live longer.
