How did orthodox Christianity influence science?

If by orthodox Christianity, you mean "Biblical" Christianity, it is safe to say that the Christian heritage of the West was most likely the mother of the thought patterns that gave rise to science. Belief in a dependable God is key to believing in the rational, comprehensible worldview necessary to incite scientific curiosity. Rodney Stark (former skeptic) has written a great series of books on this subject.
