Best Answer

The Greeks generally had a long and arduous process for selecting their most powerful individuals. They would first have the battle of Gyros, in which the best Gyro maker would proceed to the next round. Then, they would hold the statue contest, in which the individuals who could stand most still for the longest would progress. Finally, they would engage in extended public discourse to finally decide who would be the supreme commander.
