Well.. they blacked out all windows , they didn't turn on any lamps or lights so that the Germans couldn't spot them. They also built Anderson shelters in their back garden so that if the air ride siren went of they could get inside of it for safety. That is were the air rade comes in. They had air rades which here like loud sirens whenever Germans were going to bomb or attack the siren would go of as a type of warning. All children had to carry gas masks in case gas bombs were released. Many children were evacuated to relatives that lived far away. This was for their own safety.
