Yes, the cheapest way was to travel by water because by land you had to walk unlike in water which has currents. It does the walking for you.
The other one above is not me.I believe that there were just a few methods to travel in the 1800's.A few of them are....Bike - were inventedHorse - commonboat/shipsteamboat - invented by Robert fulton around the 1800'sand a few more which I may not know of
