Witches use magical protection. Also Witches believe that by causing no harm to anyone we can prevent a lot of bad consequences coming back to us. Witches use Talismans, Amulets, Crystals, Strings, Symbols drawn on walls, floor and many secret things for protection. Witches are human too though. Despite magickal protection, they use other things, like the police, when they are threatened. Witches dont have to rely on magick all the time.

But if you are talking about superstitious nonsense/misconceptions:

  • Magick
  • A familiar, such as a bat or black cat
  • The Devil
  • Demons
  • Evil in general

in the middle ages, any woman who was especially willful, had opinions, had managed to acquire property that her accuser wanted, enjoyed sex, or was an elderly woman who was single was likely to be accused of being a witch.

there was a book written called the malleus maleficarum that described the characteristics of a witch and what torture methods were to be employed to gain a confession of being a witch.

If they were unsure if they were a witch, they would drown them. If you didn't drown, you were a witch but if you drowned you weren't a witch.
