Wool was the most common of cloths for clothing, together with linen, in recorded history. Everyone could afford to have it, and in many cases people could weave it themselves from the wool of the sheep that they kept. Of course there were differences in the quality and price of cloth, and the poor had to make do with a coarser quality than the rich.

Poor people wore the same type of clothing as the wealthy but of inferior material. They wore the tunic and cloak or tunic and toga if they were citizens. However, the fabric of their clothing was coarser wool than the elite and the poor more than likely had a lot more patches in their tunics. The colors of the clothing of the poor was often simply the brownish/beigeish color of undyed wool. If their clothing were dyed at all it would have been some combination of the red and yellow as these two dyes were the cheapest.
The rich people had ornate and large homes. The poor had what they could afford. As more land became enclosed for raising sheep for wool, more people became poor and lost their homes. People were sometimes forced into workhouses.

No
The rich people in ancient Rome actually wore the same kind of clothes as the poor people. The styles were the same. The difference was in the quality of the materials. The wealthy could afford to wear the finer grades of wool, and even cotton or silk. They could also afford to have them dyed bright colors. The poor on the other hand, wore the coarser grades of wool and if they were dyed at all, they were generally a shade of either yellow or red, as those were the two cheapest dyes available.
