If you're speaking in terms of general impact, religion plays a massive part in history. We find through studying history that almost every war, for instance, has been based at least partly in religion. This can stem anywhere from out-right attacks on religion (such as the current Iraq war which began by a Christian nation occupying a middle-eastern country, therefore tainting it with western influence, and a Muslim retaliation thereof; and back and forth, and back and forth), to war based on specific relgious beliefs or principles; for example, the Crusades, which was a recapture of Jerusalem (which Christians considered the Navel of the World, but where many religions have important buildings and ceremonies). But the fact is, from these wars we find other ripple effects. The Crusades, which began with religion, ended in the expansion of empire and the enlightenment of Europe. Soldiers who saw the wonders of the Middle East and every country on the way, who tasted spices in their food (where Europe was used to dull, bland food with little flavor), to inventions that were practical. The matter of war is inevitable because people will always fight over what they believe, but if we examine history we can see that from the bad good has always come. Even noted atrocities such as the Salem Witch Trials and the Inquisition, both matters of religion, eventually led to the overall re-acceptance of the idea of Witchcraft (for instance, we don't burn witches anymore in first world nations) because of such atrocity. Also, religon played major roles in peasant and noble lives alike in the middle ages, when the Church dominated after the fall of Rome. It did both good (preventing war or working Behind the Scenes in nations) and bad (extracting a necessary 10% tithe from every income which many couldn't afford).

  • Simply put its better to ask what didn't it affect considering Atheism just now started being accepted you got to ask yourself how long has it been around and how long did it rule our lives as human beings.

Truth is its been affecting history since the beginning mainly around the early ages of empires and such. There were many so called "religious crusades" which led to the slaughter of thousands for centuries Only about the time after the dark ages do we see religion taking the back seat as opposed to ruling our day to day life and decisions.

  • The role that religion played in history was to provide answers to the questions to the purpose of life and to provide hope that death is not the end. If people had no reason or purpose for living except to simply survive then there would be no need to build or work towards any goal. Religion gave leaders the tools they needed to control people through their fears of death and pain by giving them the hope of something better and magical that could give them amazing joy and freedom from the pain and suffering of life.

Religion worked so well for the leaders that they gained more power and control of greater numbers of people and the earth making them Gods or masters. The followers of such leaders were convinced that they were directed by a powerful magical being of sun, rain, wind, heat, cold, light, dark, thunder, and lightening. That powerful master was to be served by unquestioning loyalty or the punishment and pain would be very terrible.

Then some curious people came along and discovered the truth about nature and they called it science. Those free thinkers or scientists discovered the true reasons for the things around them and nature of such things. Religion then found itself challenged by those free thinkers and the influence they had on others which caused more people to break away from the control of their masters. People then found out that true freedom and joy comes from a physical reality and not a Santa Claus fantasy.

most events which took place, are sometimes due to religion. for example in Christianity, there are many mentions of wars which took place, and did actually happen in history. so there are many ties with religion and history, you just need to research them.

What is the importance of having a religion?

Religion is one of the driving forces of human progress in history. It helps us to connect in abstract and creative ways, and provides motivations for lots of things. It can also provide a social support structure. Most of this can be found outside of a context of religion, but religions are largely responsible for innovating these frameworks.

Is history part of religion?

A:History and religion are separate but overlapping studies. A student of history will sooner or later learn about the religion of the people at the time in history that he or she is studying; a student of religion will learn about the history of the times when the religion evolved. Care must be taken because followers of each religion may have, from ancient times, created legends that are not necessarily dissimilar to the true history of the times but nevertheless do not accurately reflect events that actually happened.

How has religion been important in history and modern times?

A:It is reasonable to say that religion creates history, and history creates religion. Even when religion was not the primary cause of war, military success was attributed to the gods. The defeated people often considered whether their gods could any longer help them in times of war.
