Saul and his men did not accept any plan to make David king. After Saul's death there was warring between Israel and Judah. David was made king over Judah and Saul's son made king over Israel. There was warring and covert acts which between the two until it was apparent that David could not be defeated. Eventually Israel submitted to David becoming the king over all Israel, including Judah
