The anti-slavery Northerners were overjoyed by it, and it gave them a good, moral purpose to fight. The Northern Democrats, though, claimed that it would only prolong the war by antagonising the the South. Many of the Union soldiers only accepted it because they thought it was the only way to re-unite the nation. The Confederates were, of course, outraged by it.

they thought of it as a reason to fight because the black people never were in a war and the white people didnt like that.

Most of the country agreed with it. In the beginning of the country, as colonies, there were no slaves, there were only indentured servants. Later using the legal system people became slaves. One of the first slave owners, was in Massachusetts. He was a former indentured servant and was black. One of his first slaves was white.

Blacks and whites worked to together, prayed together and fought in the revolution and the war of 1812 together. Even black woman helped in the revolution, Phillis Wheatley wrote and read poems for George Washington's troops in valley forge. It wasn't until 1793 when a black preacher, Richard Allen, started segregating his Methodist church from the whites in the area.

What emancipation did was again reiterate the rights of All, as was written in the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, U.S. Constitution and President Washington's regulation making it illegal to own or have slave trade in any federal territory or new state entering the union. It wasn't until the 1830's when the Democrat party slowly removed these regulations to allow slaves and slave trade to continue and move into the states and federal territories added after 1808.

How did some formerly enslaved African-Americans in the south respond to advancing Union forces?

Before the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863, slaves in the South could only hope that advancing Union armies would not make themselves victims of collateral damage. After January 1, 1863, Southern slaves could look forward to being freed by advancing Union armies. The Proclamation had no effect on Union slave holding states. With that said, many freed slaves wanted to enlist in the Union army.
