Spider monkeys are primates living in Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. They have comparatively long, spindly limbs and a long prehensile tail. They are tree dwellers and currently endangered due to the loss of natural habitats.
They are called that because of their long, thin limbs and prehensile tails, and the way they move when swinging through the trees.
For the first Europeans to see them, spider monkeys looked like they had five limbs, and their hanging from separate tree branches gave them the look of a spider in its web.
Spiders and monkeys are actually in the same family, and carry the same DNA. 2000 years spiders and monkeys were the same thing, and they will soon become the same again. But the "spider monkey" is the closest to the original form which is why it has its name
They have very long arms and legs and climb like a spider and eat spiders
The Spider Monkey, scientifically known as Ateles Hybridius, is called that way because of its ability to climb objects quickly and quietly.
