Sushi per se has not "influenced" Hawaiian culture in a significant way, but Asian culture have. Hawaii's Asian majority population and cultural influence dates back to the 1800's and early 1900's, when immigrants from the Phillipines, China, Korea, Japan, Portugal, and elsewhere came to the islands to support its flourishing cane sugar and agricultural industry. The cultures, traditions, and (in your case) foods of these people travelled with them, creating the melting pot of east-west cultures Hawaii is today.
