They are a program directorate of the Corps national headquarters. We create and shape policy and perform strategic planning, direction and oversight of research and development for the Corps Military and Civil Works programs, and for the war fighter. We advise the Chief of Engineers on matters of science and technology (S&T) and set conditions for success in all S&T conducted in the Corps. Communication is an important aspect of our work. We champion a collaborative, collegiate, and vibrant working environment with customers, partners, and stakeholders alike. We foster national relationships in S&T between the Corps and the administration, Congress, agencies, industry and non-governmental organizations. We develop and direct strategic initiatives to identify, focus, and prioritize technology directions to ensure that Corps S&T is responsive to users. We are a facilitator to increase awareness of the Corps S&T community and what it can do for others. We are a vehicle through which the Nation can seek research and engineering support from the Corps. Help us help you by letting us know of your needs.
Military threats drastically reduced in the early 1900s because nations started collaborating more and international laws started to take shape. The formation of the league of nations came up as a result of those 1900s laws.
Incredibly, computers and cyber technology has revolutionised the world we live in today especially the armys of the modern world. In fact truth be told militarys today have more sophisticated technology than that of the civilian population of the nations public. So much so that for some countries you may say that they are several years ahead in technology most of which is secret. An example of brilliant IT in the military is camera technology as in for example the AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter has the camera capability to see up to distances of two miles and identify the difference between a TV remote from a Sky TV remote. They are around the same size and shape but very slight differen features and the incredible technology in the helicopters systems enables it to also tell the temperature of the remote even at such distance. Moving on to a different form of technology i shall discuss the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank it has the capabilities to fire its ammunition at distances exceeding most other tanks capabilties and hit within an accuracy of a single metre. It can only do this because of the extremely sophisticated systems within its main turret and its very complicated computers make it simple for the operators to understand for the worst of situations and can work in the worst of conditions. The technology the army has in the modern world will bewilder you if you could see it all compared to what you may have at home. And dont forget the secret super techy things that you wont know about for another 15 years, it really make you wonder.
Learning military history fills in the gaps of the history you have learned. It explains how America was formed or how Germany was officially called Germany as a country. It was previously numerous principalities that littered the land and wasn't called Germany until after the Franco-Prussian War. It also explains how the sacrifices of those who do serve shape countries as well as how it preserves the freedoms we hold on to. By not learning military history, you are scratching the surface of what history has to offer.
because bob named it that... Ok? If you mean the building, it is because it is pentagonal in shape. If you mean the shape, "pentagon" is greek for "five angles". Actually, I think the Pentagon is named so because of the five branches of the military: U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard. And then it was built to be five sided to represent those branches.
Eisenhower's military policy was shaped by nuclear technology. Due to the concept of M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction, though I am not sure if that term was in use during his administration), nuclear weapons became the focus of national defense. So the US shifted from a large standing army to a smaller one with emphasis on intelligence gathering, espionage, and large stockpile of nuclear weapons.
It involves many kinds of technology. Tracked mobility, sleek shape, re-active armour, gun stabilisation, and many other things.

5 major external forces seem to drive the rate of change and shape our economic and political landscape: globalization, technology, organizational consolidation, the empowered consumer, and government policy and regulation.
Political economy influences foreign policy by shaping a country's trade relationships, alliances, and strategic interests. Economic factors like trade agreements, resource dependencies, and economic growth can all impact a country's decision-making in its foreign relations. Additionally, political economy considerations can influence policies related to sanctions, aid, and international financial institutions.
