While tactically insignificant for Mexico & strategically useless for the Texian Army, the Alamo nonetheless effectively pissed off every single inhabitant of Texas & created a unified front against Mexican aggression, despite the battle ending with a Texian loss. Beneficially for Texan Indepence, the Alamo became a rallying cry & motivation for Texian soldiers during battle.
What is less widely known is how the Goliad Massacre of Texian POW's & its aftermath affected the Texas War for Independence, becoming a rallying cry in much the same way as did the Alamo.
"Remember the Alamo!" & "Remember Goliad" were heard on the battlefield of San Jacinto by Texians under General Sam Houston, a battle which ended the war & brought about establishment of the Republic of Texas.
This effected the USA because many Anglo-Americans were being taken to prison by Mexican soldiers from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. This is why the Battle of the Alamo took place.
It gave it a rallying cry: Remember the Alamo.
It is believed that instead of putting them in fear for their lives, it strengthened their resolve to gain independence from Mexico. New recruits to the Texian cause increased in numbers.
Because of the loss at the Alamo, which followed the massacre at Goliad, Texans were ever more determined to win their independence from Mexico.
The Alamo.
The Texan army set up for battle there to suprise the Santa Anna army.
The Texans , fighting to the end , became a rallying cry encouraging the others to fight on against the Mexican government/army .
The Battle of the Alamo was won by Mexico, but the War for Texas Independence was won by Texas and San Jacinto.
The Alamo and goliad were to events that inspired Texans to keep fighting for their independence.
