Because they were better motivated. (And that's from someone in the UK.)

Okay, that's one way of looking at it. Another is that France beat Britain and the colonists were supplied with most of their firearms from France. France sent over thousands of soldiers. The French navy entrapped Cornwallis. Prussia was annoyed at England for breaking its alliance and created a neutrality league where a number of English allies did not join the war effort. France had Spain and the Dutch helping them, so England was fighting for its very survival. France bankrupted their own government doing this (as seen in the French Revolution). England did not have enough resources to protect the 13 colonies and was more interested in preserving other parts of the empire; one of the Sugar islands in the carribean generated more revenue than all of the colonies combined. So, basically, the British had nothing to use and nobody to rely on. Also, when you push people at the playground, people are eventually going to start pushing back. "Taxation without representation" and all that?

the shorteast way i can explain this: The war was fought on American soil, therefore the British had supplies for the war shipped to them from Brittan. We blocked off the main harbor Britan was using to supply their troops forceing Brittan to retreat. There was a large amount of help from France,Brittan's enemy.

because they had more people

I am not a historian. But as I recall there were 2 reasons we beat the British, besides commitment.

One was the British army wanted to fight as they always had, in formation, head to head, on a battlefield. The Americans engaged them whenever they could, used guerrilla tactics, hit and run, and wore them down.

The other was supply lines. The British had to supply themselves from England. And the Americans were well supplied here.

They almost beat us. They were experienced and well-supplied, despite what I said above. And it wasn't until the end of the War of 1812 that England recognized our independence.
