Europe was still picking up from the Second World War but on its way to recovery. However, the United States was near its peak in world economic dominance. The 50s is often considered one of the most prosperous periods in American history.
The American Economy in the fifties was amazing. After World War II the US was on top of the world! It just had emerged from the worlds largest war as an economic and military powerhouse. Homes and towns sprung up everywhere. The 1950's also saw the baby boomers, where basically, all the returning soldiers and women had fun and made many future Americans, but back to the economy. During World War II the government restarted factories and created many new jobs to increase war effort. These factories made cars, clothes, weapons, and created masses of food to feed the soldiers. Once the war was over, what happened to all these jobs and factories? They stayed around and did some tweaking to make things for citizens instead of soldiers. So the US made all these products and had many jobs. The unemployment at its lowest in the 1950's was around 2.9% and at its highest around 5.5%. So America basically had a great economy.
The economic climate of the US in the 1950s was seen to be stagnant. However, in the 1960s, there was gradual growth in the US economy.
The economic situation of America in the 1950s was a great postwar economy. After WWII, the U.S. had an economic boom, making these United States the greatest economy of that decade.
The war ended, the president changed it, people got there jobs back, and Americans worked harder
