first, the Europeans came in contact with the Aztec, because they wanted gold. When Hernando Cortez got there, he and his army were attacked by friends of the Aztec. after that happened, the got to Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec tribe. they fought a battle with the Aztec, but were then forced to flee. they came back 5 months later but most of the Aztec had already died from diseases the European brought over, so the European took over.
