The English civil war happened when King Charles the 1st angered Parliament by ignoring them. This was because he strongly believed in the divine right of kings to rule alone. He also raised taxes a lot and wasted the money on himself instead of the country and his wife Henrietta Maria was Catholic and the country was supposed to be protestant. When he published a new Bible a lot of people thought it was too Catholic and that made them angry. There was probably a few other things as well but this is what I know.
