the Erie canal helped people because they got places quicker and faster. they could trade and explore the surrounding's. it was once helpful and still is from this day forward.

The Erie Canal made it possible for farmers to send corn and wheat west to New York. The canal also made is possible for immigrants to come from Europe to settle in the Midwest.
