Gaia the earth goddess and Uranus the sky god where born of chaos had several children. These children where the titans. the Titans eventually killed Gaia and Uranus and had children of there own. These children where the Greek gods. They and the titan Prometheus ,who created mankind from clay and water, eventually fought a brutal war with the titans and won killing some and imprisoning others. After the war was over Zeus turned against mankind, he intended to destroy them and start anew, but he was out witted by Prometheus who championed mankind.
A bit long but that is how the Greeks explained how the pantheon came to be.
SInce Greeks didn't have science, they needed ways to explain certain things. So they came up w/ the gods
The ancient Greeks did not have science to explain how the Earth works yet, so they made up stories about Greek gods to explain forces of nature.
They made up the gods and they made up different spirit's.
Greek gods were imagined by the Greeks, so they are related by that.
Personally, I can tell the stories for both, but the Greeks came first, but then Rome conquered them, and basically copied them,
The Greeks came up with all the gods to explain things they could not otherwise explain. They came up with Poseidon to explain the movements of the waves and the creation of hurricanes and the suchlike.

i think its best to go with the Greeks
The Greeks used myths about their Gods to explain... everything. Examples:Natural eventsThings in natureStrange happeningsEventsHow places were made
The Greeks. They made the Myths to explain the unexplainable.
They don't anymore. They used to believe in twelve Gods, in the ancient times. These Gods lived in mount Olympus and Zeus was the "leader" of all gods. The Greeks created the twelve Gods, trying to explain the natural phenomena, and all things happened in mother earth at these times.
Their myths and legends, and the acts of their gods.
They were used to explain natural phenomena.
The Greek gods were a way for the ancient Greeks to explain what was happening in the world. for example the Greeks thought that the sea god Poseidon (Roman: Neptune) was the god of water. when there was earthquakes, the Greeks thought that Poseidon was crashing the water into the land and so they called him "earth shaker"
In Ancient Greece, that was their religion. They have so many stories about the gods and goddesses they worshiped to explain how things came to be and a way for them to understand the world around them (like the seasons, storms, and why the earth is never crushed by the sky). The stories that don't explain natural phenomena we probably used as entertainment and to teach lessons of bravery, ingenuity, humility etc.
The ancient Greeks created myths because to explain the gods' actions.
