God promised the land of Israel to Abraham (Genesis ch.13), to Isaac (Genesis ch.26), to Jacob (Genesis ch.28), and to Jacob's descendants (Exodus ch.6). The promise was fulfilled in the time of Joshua. After the Israelites entered and took the Holy Land, it was henceforth known as the land of Israel (instead of Canaan).

The Hebrews felt they had a covenant with God. Hebrews 8:10 "This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people"
Israel is the home of Hebrews, but they are actually called Jews.
Whenever you ask why some people did what they did, any answer has to be pure speculation and opinion, unless you ask the people who did it and they explain their motives for you. According to the Bible ... certainly one source of speculation and opinion that has to be considered along with the others ... the Hebrews didn't choose that at all. Israel was established by an entity quite outside the Hebrews, and they were instructed to inherit it, live in it, develop it, defend it, and bequeath it.
Israel.

None of these. The home of the Hebrews was Israel. After the year 70 CE, when they were kicked out of Israel, The Romans renamed it "Palestine" (but the home of the Hebrews was never called Palestine).
