When King George III heard of the Boston Tea party, he and the parliament decided to teach all the colonies a lesson by punishing Massachusetts through 4 acts. They were called the Intolerable Acts because it was unavoidable (that's what the colonists say).

1. Closed Boston's ports until the city paid for the tea. However the other colonies helped Boston by sending them food and supplies.

2. Deprived Mass. of self governing and placed them under rule of the British General, Thomas Gage.

3. Allowed British officials be put on trial in England.

4. Issued stronger quartering Act.

He kept the taxes on the tea and replaced the governor of Massachusetts with a governor he appointed -- a governor loyal to King George.
