How did the Mormon overcome their challenges they faced?

As a people, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("Mormons") have always been considered to be industrious. The principle of work is taught at all levels of church instruction, and the need to "endure to the end" is deeply embedded in church doctrine. With that in mind, Latter-day Saints also have a profound respect for their priesthood leaders. Whenever the prophet issues a challenge to the church, Latter-day Saints do their best to heed his counsel and support the immediate need.

This was well demonstrated during the exodus of the Saints from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake valley. Time and again, the Latter-day Saints met challenges including (but not limited to) difficult river crossings, the need to move wagons over rough terrain, and frequent breakdowns of equipment and even animals. Death was, unfortunately, common on the trail with little time to grieve or properly bury lost loved ones. However, those who suffered great loss on the trail also held a deep conviction in their hearts that they would indeed see their loved ones again, and that faith helped to keep them moving forward.
