180,000 Persians won. This took place in the battle of Thermopylae. Leonidas and his army of 6,000 to 7,000 Spartans but were delayed by the Persians when a Greek traitor showed the Persians how to attack from both sides. Leonidas commanded all of his soldiers to escape except for 300 Spartans.

They did not want to attack Thermopylai. They wanted to go through thr pass of Thermopylai from northern to southern Greece which was blocked by a small Greek force.

Greeks could have attacked before the Persians but a lot of the evidence points to the Persians attacking first, the Persians were most likely to have fought when they got off their boats and when they encountered in the valley, but, the Greeks were to have probably ran away into the valley than to have been chased.
