We do not know a lot about the theater in early medieval times, but we can see a few examples of it. One is in commentary on the life of the Empress Theodora, wife of Justinian the Great, who lived from about 500 AD to about 548. She is said to have been a daughter of a bear trainer, who came from a brothel and supported herself by a combination of acting and prostitution. It seems a lot of women who acted were prostitutes in those days.

Mummers, who acted in plays in the early middle ages, drew their traditions from pagan practice, and kept those traditions alive, even to the present day, though they might not think about paganism as they work.

In the middle ages, the church provided alternative, morality plays, mystery plays, and passion plays. These were performed at or in a church and were intended to be morally instructive to the audiences. They had a long history and developed their own traditions.

At the end of the Middle Ages, the theatrical groups started to deal with more secular material, called manners plays, which dealt with issues not promoted by the Church. These plays drew on the traditions of the church oriented plays of earlier times, and in turn influenced such writers as Marlow and Shakespeare.

What scientific theory outraged the Catholic Church?

Catholic AnswerThe Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ. It exists through the gracious love of God in order to bring God to people and people to God. It does this through the sacraments, through preaching, through the lived example of the saints throughout history. As the Mystical Body of Christ, the Church does not get "outraged" except perhaps at sin. It certainly does not get outraged at scientific theories.

What effect did the ideas of martin Luther and other religious reformers have on the relations between different groups in Europe?

Martin Luther's reformation caused Anglicanism to arise in England. The reformers also accelerated the development of the Catholic Counter-Reformation of the Catholic Church. Wars between princes & peasant uprisings developed. Luther's message of salvation through the unmerited grace of God was not readily accepted by the Roman Catholic Church, however, his message resonated with those in Europe who sought reform in the Roman Catholic Church.
