There were many ways the SR-71 blackbird helpped aviation. It broke new ground in the fields of survaliance, speed, altitude, and stealth. It to this day remains the fastest manned-air breathing-jet propelled aircraft in existence. It currently holds records in altitude and speed even though it was designed before computers were used. It's cameras (SR stands for Strategic Recon) were so advanced that from crusing altitude they could take a picture of a Golf ball on the green. It's crusing speed was 3.3 times the speed of sound, as fast as a rifle bullet. It's crusing altitude was roughly 100,000 feet in elevation. The plane managed to accomplish all of this in hte 60's. It truley was a ground breaking aircraft.
