The Seven Years War gave two major impetuses for the French Revolution.

  1. The French lost disastrously in the New World and this would indicate to the French people that the French Government was weak and unable to properly defend the people of France. One of the main justifications for royal families to have absolute power was that they were able to protect the people. Their inability in this case meant that they were losing this right to absolute power.
  2. The Seven Years War was a huge financial and military drain on France, since it required fighting the English on three distinct continents and the use of numerous large ships.
