In the disputed territory between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande River, in present-day Texas. The American president (Pres. Polk) had ordered General Zachary Taylor and his force to move south of the Nueces into the disputed zone, and there to build a supply depot at Point Isabel and a fort near the Rio Grande, just across from the Mexican city of Matamoros. The Mexican government demanded that he withdraw from the disputed area and not only did Taylor ignore them he then ordered a naval blockade of the mouth of the Rio Grande intended to cut off the Mexican forces forming up in Matamoros from their supplies. When the Mexican Army finally responded to these acts of aggression by sending a cavalry force into the disputed zone a skirmish developed between an American patrol led by Thornton versus the Mexican cavalry force. About 16 American soldiers were killed and Pres. Polk used this as a pretext to ask Congress for a declaration of war against Mexico, as Polk coveted Mexican California and New Mexico. So you see, the Mexican-American war was entirely provoked and started by the U.S., a war of aggression. In other words the U.S. is the bad guy in this war.
No. There was another Confederate army under Joe Johnston in North Carolina, which did not surrender for another two weeks, and other small units West of the Mississippi, which continued to skirmish for a few weeks after that.

President Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor to cross the Rio Grande and occupy the disputed territory between Texas and Mexico, which ultimately led to the outbreak of the Mexican-American War.

To interpret all the general and special purpose maps, it is important to know about latitude and longitude. A basic understanding of geography will help.

This way allows you to use Boss General Leang in the Skirmish and Multiplayer modes: All you need to do is use a BIG Extractor (I like to use FinalBIG) to open INIZH.big in the main directory, find Data\INI\PlayerTemplate.ini, and go to "PlayerTemplate FactionBossGeneral". Make sure the line "PlayableSide = " is set to Yes (this is very important). Once you are done there, go to Data\INI\ChallengeMode.ini, scroll down to "GeneralPersona9", and change "StartsEnabled =" from no to yes. This will make General Leang playable in Skirmish or Multiplayer. Save and exit the BIG editor and start the game. When you enter Skirmish mode, scroll down the "Army" list to find "Boss General" at the end and the description "General 'Tigress' Leiong Leang demands the use of all other technology to defeat her enemies". This confirms that the trick worked. You can use Leang's combined forces army in a Skirmish game. If you want to see her already programmed in a mod, download Pro:Gen or Shockwave, making sure to patch the game if necessary. Have fun! :)
