Perhaps the best known of the "Indians" (as they were then called) was Squanto, whose real name was Tisquantum. He was a member of the Patuxet tribe, and he acted as an interpreter and guide for the Pilgrims when they arrived in Plymouth (MA) and all during their first winter.
