Gabriel.
An angel of the Lord told Joseph to take Mary as his wife. According to the biblical account in the Gospel of Matthew, the angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and reassured him that Mary's pregnancy was from the Holy Spirit and that he should not be afraid to take her as his wife.
Answer Saint Joseph became a saint because he accepted Mary when the angel told him that the child in Mary's womb was the son of the Lord. He showed great devotion to Jesus by becoming his step-father.
A:The author of Luke's Gospel says that an angel appeared to Mary, but not to Joseph. The author of Matthew's Gospel says that an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, but not to Mary. In spite of the second-century attribution, both authors were actually anonymous, and Uta Ranke-Heinemann (Putting Away Childish Things) says that both nativity accounts are, with respect to time, place, and circumstances, a collection of legends.
Yes, according to religious texts, angels such as Gabriel came to Mary to announce the birth of Jesus. An angel also appeared to Joseph to reassure him about Mary's pregnancy, and another angel visited Zachariah to announce the birth of John the Baptist.
In Matthew an angel (doesn't say Gabriel) of the LORD appears to Joseph: Mat 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. In Luke Gabriel appears to Mary: Luk 1:26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, Luk 1:27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
Yes they were. They were engaged at the time Mary became pregnant. They married right after the angel told Joseph that Mary was pregnant, however they did not consumate the marriage until after Jesus was born.
I can find no record in Luke of Joseph being spoken to by an angel. The record in Matthew does not record the name of the angel, only that this angel spoke to Joseph; Matthew 1:20. The angelic appearance in Luke to a man is to Zachariah, John's father, and Gabriel was the angel who announced John's conception and birth.
Do unto me what is right, for I am the handmaiden of the lord.
