Anglo-Saxons had horses for riding, both in war and as civilian transport, although in those days they were NOT used as draught animals. Instead they used oxen for this- ploughing, pulling carts and also for their milk and meat (modern cows did not exist in Anglo-Saxon England).
They also farmed small breeds of sheep, goats and pigs, as well as chickens and geese. Dogs were kept for hunting and as guard-dogs, and cats were used to keep vermin down.
