The clan system was more important to, for example, Somali people than Islam was. Then, with the arrival of the Muslim Brotherhood in approximately the 1980s, everything changed. Imams preached unceasingly, and everyone was required to obey their (the Imam's) interpretations of Quran. When this dreadful oppression combined with the already aggressive and competitive clan system, Somalia fell into troubled times which have become worse as the years have gone by. The country has now been wrecked by both Islam and the clan system.
